Comprehensive Care for Endocrine Conditions

Dedicated to Your Care

Dr. Mark Stesin diagnoses and treats patients with a full range of endocrine conditions, including:

Diabetes Mellitus

  • Type 1 Diabetes: An autoimmune condition in which the immune system attacks and destroys insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas; this type often develops in childhood or adolescence and requires lifelong insulin therapy.
  • Type 2 Diabetes: Insulin resistance is a metabolic disorder in which the body becomes resistant to or doesn't produce enough insulin. It is more common in adults and is often associated with lifestyle factors like obesity, physical inactivity, and poor diet.
  • Gestational Diabetes: A type of diabetes that occurs during pregnancy and usually resolves after childbirth. However, it increases the risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes later in life.

Thyroid Disease

  • Hyperthyroidism: An overactive thyroid gland produces excessive hormones, leading to symptoms like rapid heartbeat, weight loss, anxiety, and heat intolerance. Common causes include Graves' disease and thyroid nodules.
  • Hypothyroidism: An underactive thyroid gland results in insufficient hormone production, causing fatigue, weight gain, cold sensitivity, and depression. Often linked to Hashimoto's thyroiditis or iodine deficiency.
  • Thyroid Cancer: Abnormal cell growth in the thyroid gland, presenting as a neck lump, hoarseness, or difficulty swallowing. Types include papillary, follicular, medullary, and anaplastic cancer, with treatments ranging from surgery to targeted therapies.
